Education Outside the Classroom

Fun, engaging programmes for schools in Hawke’s Bay. Using physical activity and sport as the driving force to teach success characteristics for life – communication, teamwork, leadership and resilience

Poipoia te Kākano Programme

Poipoia te Kākano, also known as the PK Programme, is centred around communication, teamwork, leadership and resilience.

Poipoia te kākano kia puāwai is a whakataukī which translates to ‘Nurture the seed and it will blossom'.

We believe in providing youth with opportunities to grow as individuals so they have the right tools for the future. Our Education Outside the Classroom programmes are available for tamariki from primary school age through to Year 9. We adapt learning to suit different ages and capabilities of groups that come through our fitness complex to ensure everyone is challenged.

From team-building work on the field, to resilience in challenges, students learn invaluable life skills - including the core pillars of Hauora (wellbeing). We understand that success extends beyond the classroom, it’s about fostering growth from every aspect of life.

Join us on this journey to nurture successful and healthy young achievers in Hawke’s Bay.

Our Coaches

Chloe Macaulay

Education & Community Outreach Lead

Coaching these programmes is incredibly rewarding. I love showing students that learning and exploration doesn't stop at the classroom door. Through movement and fun, they discover values like teamwork, resilience, and confidence that they can carry into everyday life.

Michaela Edwards

Fitness Coach

I’m excited to be part of the Education Outside the Classroom programme, where I get to be part of supporting students in unlocking new possibilities for success.

Through movement, adventure, and curiosity, we help shape confident, capable young people ready to take on the world.

Katie Beal

Strength & Conditioning Coach | Fitness Coach

Creating meaningful connections through sport and activity is one of the most rewarding parts of this role. We get to witness those ‘lightbulb’ moments when students realise how our activities link to real-life habits and personal growth.

I enjoy providing opportunities where youth can find joy in movement and navigate team challenges with confidence.

Lucas Brosset

Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach | Fitness Coach

It’s exciting to see young people having positive experiences with physical activity and growing in confidence.

Empowering them develop new skills that will help them to be both great sportspeople and positive leaders is very fulfilling.

Programme Funding

We understand it can be hard for schools to source funding for extracurricular programmes.

Because we believe in the value of our programme, we work closely with schools to overcome financial barriers in order to help our tamariki learn and thrive.

The Tū Manawa Fast Fund supports Hawke’s Bay play, sport and recreation providers for the benefit of our tamariki and Rangatahi. Schools can apply to cover the EOTC programme costs, including transport to and from the Sports Park, up to $8,000 per funding round.
