From developing healthy lifestyle habits in school children, through to strength and balance training in older adults. Underpinned by the latest research, our programmes, are tailored to meet the needs of our community.
Located at Mitre 10 Park, we operate the EIT Institute of Sport & Health. A multi-purpose facility that enables the delivery of our health programmes and a centre for everyone in the community to exercise.
We design programmes that support athletes to perform to the best of their ability. Our programmes are tailored to suit the athletes needs and we cater for all age groups and abilities – from the adolescent novice to the seasoned pro.
We deliver a spectrum of services from community health & fitness, athlete development, and high performance sport – all under one roof. Our aim is to improve the health of everyone in Hawke’s Bay, as well as grow future Olympians, right here in our own backyard.
The Institute provides a comprehensive range of training facilities that allows me to target all the different areas of my sporting discipline. There are always friendly staff nearby to ask questions or a Coach available to work through exercises one-on-one and having the accessibility of a Physiotherapist upstairs is ideal for injury rehabilitation.
We’re incredibly grateful for every opportunity we get to spend time in Hawke’s Bay. The environment and training facilities are the best in New Zealand, but it is the quality people and atmosphere that truly separate it.
We are very grateful to have access to both an indoor and outdoor pole vault set up in the Hawke's Bay. It allows us to train consistently and to a high level when we visit. In saying that, the weather is often perfect for us to jump outside, so we love the opportunity to train and compete there.
The Bay provides an environment where you can train and focus away from home. The facilities are perfect and the weather is superb. I always enjoy my time in Hawke's Bay.
As a local it's truly amazing what facilities that the Trust have created at the Sports Park. I myself train twice a week in the Performance Gym with Josh, my S&C Coach. This is perfect as I aim to keep my body up to international level competition and hopefully go on to play at the Tokyo Olympics. The future also looks amazing with the new and exciting initiatives the Trust are working on.
The Performance Gym is an excellent training facility providing top support for aspiring NZ athletes. The coaching support from the staff is second to none, helping and directing athletes training at the facility to continue to get closer to achieving their sporting and personal goals. The training facilities and resources at the athlete’s disposal are also the best of the best, providing the best opportunity for us to succeed at our chosen disciplines.
I have been fortunate enough to be apart of the Athlete Development Programme for over 2 years and have seen the physical, mental and tactical elements of my sport significantly increase. I love the fact that I get to connect with Kendall, my S&C coach every session while using world class technology and equipment to track my improvements. One of the biggest benefits of the facility is the environment - not only is the staff supporting and welcoming but the environment of training amongst other athletes and getting better alongside others only drives you to be better. The Institute is second to none when it comes to developing as an athlete!
At Playball we run a series of age appropriate sports classes for kids. The Institute has become our go to venue with 12 Playball sessions running there every week. The facilities are amazing and inspire the tamariki in our classes - they love being in such an aspirational environment. The venue is well situated meaning it's accessible for people coming from all over the bay and there is plenty of parking, which is handy on busy Saturday mornings. The team behind the HBCFT are awesome to deal with and we've formed a great relationship with them. We couldn't be happier.
The Flaxmere Sports Academy that has been in place for the last three years involving a selection of children from Flaxmere and surrounding schools (Kahui Ako) has proven to not only be a place where children with sporting potential are inspired, motivated and educated to develop skills to be better athletes but also a place where the inspirational environment created by skilled coaches helps children to develop leadership skills, set and achieve personal goals while all the time making children strive to be the best that they can be!
The EIT Institute of Sport and Health has become an important component of our high performance programmes in Hawke’s Bay, and this will only continue to grow as we begin work on indoor and outdoor cricket training facilities at the Sports Park. Access to a world class strength and conditioning gym, alongside the sports medicine and training facilities make the Institute a perfect location to create a Cricket Centre of Excellence. We look forward to the Institute becoming the home of CD Cricket.
