Hawke’s Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust’s (HBCFCT) Poipoia te Kākano (PK) Programme has a new partner, with Groundfix coming on board in May, providing support to the programmes that are empowering Hawke’s Bay tamariki throughout the year.
Groundfix are experts in slope stabilisation, ground engineering and rockfall protection, and over the last 12 months have spent thousands of hours on State Highway 2 north of Napier fixing landslides and roading as a result of last year’s cyclone.
Groundfix Director Simon Bourke says “As a business committed to community impact, we recognise the transformative power of physical education and teamwork in education. By supporting the PK programme, we are proud to play a small part in fostering a generation of young tamariki to be equipped with essential life skills like communication, teamwork, leadership and resilience, paving the way for a more capable workforce for tomorrow. The construction sector is a very rewarding sector to be a part of and we hope one day to see some participants of the PK programme forge their own career pathway into the construction industry.

Ally Hislop, Education & Community Outreach Manager at HBCFCT, is grateful for the additional support. “We know that sport and exercise is a vital tool in teaching the success characteristics for life – communication, resilience, leadership and teamwork. Our programme is aimed at teaching tamariki to prioritise their wellbeing, giving them the tools to be great members of the community through building character and positive relationships”.
“We are committed to nurturing the hauora of tamariki in Hawke’s Bay. Thanks to our partners such as Groundfix, we are able to make opportunities such as the PK Programme affordable to schools in Hawke’s Bay and surrounding areas”.
Greg Howie, HBCFCT Commercial & Partnerships Manager, was also complimentary of the partnership. “The overarching programmes delivered by the Education and Community Outreach team, including the PK programme, are benefiting the youth of Hawke’s Bay immensely, so we are very thankful for this support. It’s not lost on the Trust that Groundfix are playing an integral part in ensuring the roading connection between Napier and Wairoa is repaired as quickly as possible.” Howie says.
