42 of New Zealand’s Surf Lifesaving athletes recently stopped in Hawke’s Bay as part of their National Sprint Camp, making the most of our sport facilities and the region’s iconic beaches.
Hosted onsite in our 60-bed accommodation hostel, the team had everything they needed within walking distance - the café, aquatic centre, outdoor track, and high-performance gym all just a minute away. This setup allowed them to move seamlessly between training blocks, nutrition and goal-setting workshops, and recovery sessions.
Alongside several National and local Hawke’s Bay coaches, our own strength and conditioning team delivered a two day training block in our high-performance gym. These sessions were specifically programmed for Surf Lifesaving, focusing on the speed, power, and sprint elements essential to their sport.
Saturday’s session involved a range of sport specific athlete testing using our specialist equipment - designed to assess athlete’s speed and power. On Sunday, the focus shifted to a gym based strength and power training, giving the athletes practical tools they can take home and implement into their training programme.
“The team who ran the testing and the S&C sessions were epic and adjusted to our wide range of age and stage perfectly so that everyone took something away – including our elites and coaches! Super grateful for the groups experience and we are keen to book it in again for next year!” - Holly Fletcher, NZ SLS Performance Pathways Lead
NZ Surf Lifesaving are one of many groups we’ve proudly hosted this year - alongside teams such as Northern Districts Cricket, the Black Caps, Wellington Men’s Netball, and other national and international schools.
We’re proud to provide athletes with an environment designed for growth. As a go-to destination for touring sports teams and performance camps across New Zealand, our fitness complex continues to drive toward our goal of establishing Hawke’s Bay as a leading region for sport and performance.
