Tranzit Sponsorship Bolsters Education Outside the Classroom Programme

Hawke’s Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust (HBCFCT) is delighted to partner with Tranzit Coachlines to support its Education Outside the Classroom Programme.

Tranzit, New Zealand’s largest family-owned transport and tourism company that has been operating in Hawke’s Bay since 2021, join Baker Tilly Staples Rodway and Gallagher Insurance in championing the HBCFCT’s cornerstone programme delivered from the Hastings facility.

One of the Education Outside the Classroom Programmes is dedicated to empowering tamariki (children) in Hawke’s Bay through dynamic experiences that promote physical activity, wellbeing, and lifelong character development.  Called Poipoia te Kākano (PK Programme), it blends fun with purpose, equipping children with skills, attitudes, and confidence they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

The last six months has seen 10 different schools from Napier, Hastings and Central Hawke’s Bay participate in the programme, enabling the delivery of over 500 individual lessons to students.
Chloe Macaulay, Education & Community Outreach Lead for HBCFCT, is full of praise for the partnership with Tranzit.

“Without the support of local businesses like Tranzit, we would not be able to offer such unique programmes to schools throughout Hawke’s Bay.  Seeing our tamariki flourish by the opportunities we can provide them gives us a real sense of purpose, and our goal is to provide this to as many schools as possible in our region”.

Tranzit Coachlines Hawke’s Bay Company Manager Julian William said the partnership with HBCFCT is a natural extension of the work Tranzit does in the community transporting students safely to and from school, as well as being the leading bus and coach company delivering group transport.

“In the areas we operate in, we do like to give back the community so Tranzit’s partnership for the Poipoia te Kākano (PK Programme) feels like a natural fit for us, given that each school needs to be transported to the facility at Mitre 10 Park in Hastings,” says Julian. “Our support enables the programme to be more accessible to children right throughout Hawke’s Bay.”

Brendan Bourke, HBCFCT’s General Manager, is “grateful for Tranzit’s support that will make a positive difference to hundreds of students in our community”.

He also was thrilled to continue his partnership with the company that began over 15 years ago when Tranzit was the official transport partner for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, an event Brendan was on the Organising Committee for.  Since then, they’ve worked together on other major sporting events and with Tranzit preparing to celebrate its Centenary later this year, Brendan says the company’s family values align strongly with HBCFCT’s delivery model.
